The RASC Montreal Centre will participate in this year’s Earth Hour event in Westmount Park. On Saturday, March 26, we will set up our telescopes in Westmount Park and – weather permitting! – observe Saturn, the Orion Nebula, and other celestial delights between 8:15pm and 9:30pm. 6:00 PM
Big Hall: doors open; exhibits on display related to energy and climate change; multi-theme activities in different rooms.
6:15 – 8:15 PM
Foyer: finger food, hot soup & drinks available at cost (bring your own cup and save!).
6:30 – 10:15 PM
Separate rooms: continuous screening of films “Home” & “The Story of Stuff” (6 films in a loop).
7:00 – 7:45 PM
Big Hall: introductions, oral presentations (Mayor Trent, MP Marc Garneau, MPP, …, invited speaker).
8:00 – 9:30 PM
Musical entertainment (Trent, Bowser, Grossman; Northbrook-9)
8:15 – 9:30 PM
Westmount Park: several telescopes will be set up by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada to observe Saturn, the Orion Nebula, and other celestial delights. Events continue in parallel inside Victoria Hall.
8:30 – 9:30 PM
Actual Earth Hour, initiated by ringing church bells; streetlights near Victoria Hall and in Westmount Park will be turned off.
10:30 PM
Doors close.
