Over 100 years ago George Ellery Hale founded Mount Wilson Observatory in California, which became the preeminent Astronomical Observatory of its time with a 60″ and a 100″ telescope along with an incredible set of solar observing tools. In its first decades of operation Edwin Hubble & Milton Humason made observations at Mount Wilson that led to the conclusion that the Universe is Expanding along with an estimate to the rate – the Hubble Constant.
On Sunday Aug 28th at 4pm EDT, RASC Montreal member and graduating JAC Space Club exec Ilyas Jaffer spent two weeks at Mount Wilson earlier this summer as part of the Summer Observational Astrophysics Retreat (SOAR). Ilyas will share with us his experience at this incredible historical site, learning to employ old and new technologies in conducting modern astrophysics research.
UPCOMING Outreach: Join RASC Montreal at the Montreal Aviation Museum Family Fun Day on Sat Aug 27th 2022 from 10h00 to 15h00.
