The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) Montreal Centre invites you to a presentation for our members, members from other RASC centres, other local amateur astronomy groups, educators and students. Join us to learn about Backyard Spectroscopy by the founder of RSpec Star Analyzer Tom Field on Saturday, June 27th starting at 8pm EDT.. Over the past two years, the RASC Montreal Centre has offered a spectral eyepiece filter RSpec Star Analyzer 100, along with the software to analyze spectra taken using this filter. In Fall 2018, a series of stellar spectra were investigated by a team of students from our partner institution – John Abbott College (JAC). The students presented their results at a library night in Winter 2019, at the RASC General Assembly in June 2019 and their poster won the Astronomy Research Award at CAFTA 2019. Building on these successes, the RASC Montreal Centre public events in 2019 often featured showcasing the spectra of stars, including the vivid difference in spectral layout for the double-star Albireo. We invite you to join us to see how you can also “read starlight” and share the wonder with others. If you are unable to join us, we hope to post a recording of the presentation on our Youtube Channel afterwards.
