The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) Montreal Centre invites everyone to a Public Presentation by RASC Member and Astrophotographer Ron Brecher on Saturday, June 6th starting at 8pm EDT. Many of our RASC Centres across Canada now have dedicated groups of astrophotographers and participate in local imaging competitions as well as sharing their images with the general public during our Outreach sessions. As Astrophotography becomes more accessible to amateur and experienced Astronomers, and images are readily shared with hobbyists and those with a passion for Space, it is fun to look at the journey of Astro-Imaging through our History.
Mankind has been recording the beauty of the cosmos for millennia using media of every imaginable kind – from cave art, earth works and buildings to the fleet of eyes in the sky that now images the cosmos from space. In this presentation, Ron will share some of his own award-winning images as he walks us through more than 17,000 years of imaging history in under an hour. We invite you to join us on this wonderful tour of imaging – and feel free to share this invitation with other space enthusiasts.
Ron Brecher (http://astrodoc.ca/) has been an avid amateur astronomer for more than 20 years and began photographing the sky in 2006. His deep-sky, Sun and Moon images and articles are regularly featured in print and online magazines, scientific journals, CD covers, websites, calendars and more. Ron writes regularly for Sky & Telescope and other publications, most recently “The Sharpless Catalogue” in the June 2020 S&T. He is the Technical Reviewer for both editions of Warren Keller’s reference book, Inside PixInsight, and has been teaching image processing workshops in Canada & the United States.
