Over the weekend of May 5 and 6, 2012, the full Moon was unusually close to Earth – only 356,400km away, compared to its usual distance from Earth of 384,000km. As a result, the moon appeared 14% bigger and 30% brighter than an average full moon. For more about how a “Supermoon” occurs, check out this webpage.
